The ranch has been a busy place this past week in preparation for our branding. There was a lot to get accomplished, and it was really fun having mom and my little brothers around. Doug moved the cows on Friday, and when I was driving by that evening, I noticed a cow that looked like she was missing her calf (it looked like her bag was going to explode, and she was walking the fence). I quickly got worried about the calf, which I was sure was on the other side of the creek still, in a different field. When I told Doug, he doubted, but being the wonderful husband that he is, went to look for the calf just to humor me. By the time it was dark, it was obvious that the calf was missing, but could not be found despite numerous attempts. Doug tried to kick the cow back out to go find her calf, but she was too worked up and wouldn't go through the gate. I was so happy early Saturday morning when Brandon peeked his head in the house and told me to bring my camera. Brett and Brandon had gone looking for the calf, and thanks to a "spiritual experience" had found poor little #45, which was quickly reunited with its mother. Thanks to Brett and Brandon, the calf is alive and well!
